BC Novels’ new website theme is now live!
I’ve changed the look of BCNovels.com. This website is using the WordPress content management system (CMS) which allows me to make a website without messing with coding.
TL;DR – Everything is fine and you shouldn’t see any major change to the website design at all.
Long story:
This year WordPress had released some pretty major updates. Most notably, a brand new “Gutenberg editor” which is, frankly, not my favorite at all. But I’ve gotten used to it.
With these new changes, the old Dara Theme I have been using now lacks certain functionalities and customizing options that I want.
I’ve chosen the Astra Theme for the new website redesign.
What has remained the same:
- The overall look, color, and layout.
- The font style, colors, and sizes.
- Navigation menu on top.
- Widgets on the sidebar.
- The stuff at the bottom of the website.
What has now changed and why:
- The main content is now more narrow in desktop mode (no change in mobile). I made this change for readability since wider text is harder to read. For example, newspaper text is printed in narrow columns. Ideally, text should be 45 – 75 characters per line. Right now text on BC Novels is 75 characters per line, including spaces.
- Since the main content area is narrower, the sidebar is now wider. The change is only around 5% of the total width which shouldn’t be noticeable.
Possible future changes: I might make a logo for BC Novels. I think text is probably good enough.
Problem: Uh, the night mode button doesn’t seem to be working right now. I’m trying to fix it.
I hope everyone likes the new look. Thanks for reading.
P.S. I did test on desktop, tablet, and mobile and everything seems fine but do let me know if I’ve broken anything.
