Chapter 53 – Every Day the Protagonist Wants to Play With Me

The link to the chapter is at the bottom. If you’re in a rush you can scroll down right away but you have the time, please read this:

I need your help! As you may or may not know, this website had over 500,000 views last month. I expect this to keep on rising until (possibly) it has over 1 million views! I’m afraid that the website hosting server won’t be able to handle it without me paying a lot more hosting fees.

Because of that, I was thinking of joining the Facebook publishing network. Facebook has a lot of servers and a mere 500,000 – 1,000,000 views won’t even make a dent on their hosting.

To be published in Facebook (their actual publishing network, not just regular FB) I need more views and clicks… on Facebook.

If you want to help me out and if you have Facebook, go to my Facebook post and like/comment on it then click on the link to read the chapter.

Thanks a lot!

A Study in Emerald by Neil Gaiman

Looks like people liked the last post about books. Here’s another thing you can read and it’s even for free!

A Study in Emerald” (pdf), a short story by Neil Gaiman. It’s an homage to H.P. Lovecraft and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle so it helps if you’ve read Sherlock Holmes and the Cthulu stuff.

shadows over baker street

This story won the Hugo Award for Best Short Story in 2004 and the 2005 Locus Award for Best Novelette.

Don’t worry, this is freely and legally distributed by the author himself at NeilGaiman.com’s free short stories section. It’s from the book “Shadows Over Baker Street.”

Excerpt:

She was called Victoria, because she had beaten us in battle, seven hundred years before, and she was called Gloriana, because she was glorious, and was called the Queen, because the human mouth was not shaped to say her true name.

It’s a great short story!

By the way, the Sherlock Holmes stories are in the public domain so they are also free. Most (but not all) of H.P. Lovecraft’s stories are also in the public domain. Therefore, you can read them for free, too!

Thanks for reading.

The river crab appeared again!

The last chapter was fun but the river crab appeared to spoil things. *sigh*

Task, tsk! Well, I still enjoyed it. I’m pretty sure every chapter is like that, by the way. Don’t raise your hopes up for non-crab infested chapters. Sorry.

Never Marry a Man with Two Tintins

never marryFor those who aren’t aware, Never Marry a Man With Two Tintins is one of my projects.

Summary:

Cheng Nuo transmigrated into a fantasy world. Not only did he turn into a child, he also became female! What?!

*Cheng Nuo checks his body*

Cheng Nuo: Great, I still have that!

*big sigh of relief*

Despite the fact that his body remained the same, except for being younger, in the world where he transmigrated, Cheng Nuo is considered a female because… he only had one “little brother.” You see, the males in his new world all have two “little brothers.”

Beauty Game: Completed!

Congratulations to Panda Hero for finishing their translation of the Chinese web comic “Beauty Game” Season 1. I know that there’s a Season 2 but Season 1 is a complete story with a good ending so I doubt I’ll want to continue reading the sequel.

You can either click the link above to download the webcomic or read it online at Mangadex.

beauty game

It’s a dark, thoughtful story of an ugly girl who gains access to a mysterious web game that lets her make changes to her appearance in exchange for doing certain tasks.

How much would people pay to be beautiful? Is beauty worth it at any cost?

There are just 49 chapters which I think is the right length for a story like this. The main character is really fascinating in a way but the real reason why I read it is because of the male lead. *sigh* What a dreamy guy!

Thanks for reading.

Beauty Game (Korean Webtoon)

I rarely read “serious” comics or manga but sometimes I just can’t resist. Also, I thought the premise of “Beauty Game” was comedic, but I was wrong! Dead wrong! It’s actually super serious, almost scary and intense.

Beauty Game is scanlated by Panda Hero. Chapter download links are available there or you can read it at Mangadex.

My summary:

An ugly but hardworking girl, Yi Rong, is working at in the fashion industry but always feels like she is at a big disadvantage because of her looks. I thought it was a magazine at first but now I think she might be working in sales/merchandising.

But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked…

Oh, sorry, wrong series!

But everything changed when she saw a mysterious app on her phone that she decided to install. Using the app, she became beautiful and experienced what it’s like to be adored for her looks.

Why I like it

I love it because of Xiao Hei! We actually don’t know his real name but he’s super awesome. I can’t say exactly why since that would spoil the story but he’s great.

Thanks for reading this post.

Whoa, just as I was finishing up this chapter I suddenly felt dizzy. I was like: Why?!

Then I realized that I hadn’t eaten anything but light snacks (mochi and a slice of cake) the whole day and that I was mostly running on pure coffee? Who knew that one can’t use pure sugar and caffeine to fuel one’s body?

Pfft! Could it be that I’m getting too old for this?

Nooooo!

Yu Ling Shi aka Spirit Ranger

I recently re-discovered a manhua I had been reading. It’s quite funny. The story isn’t much and makes no sense but it doesn’t matter since it’s almost pure 100% comedy anyway.

Check out the image below. Which of these two do you think is the main character?

If you guessed the long-haired guy then you got it right.

If you guessed the bald guy then you also got it right.

The bald guy is the main character’s original look and he sometimes transforms into the long-haired guy.

Summary:

“I got thrown into my own manhua!” I became stronger, but also bald…

A manhua artist transmigrated into his own manhua as a sidekick.

Pregnant Woman Next Door, How Are You Doing?

pregnant woman
I just finished reading a completely translated short story in 11 parts about a voice actor and his die-hard fan. It’s titled “The Pregnant Woman Next Door, How Are You Doing?

It’s pure, sweet fluff! I recommend it if you want to read something nice that has a positive energy.

Lots of people prefer to read novel-length work but I personally enjoy these shorter stories.

P.S. Don’t believe the misleading title. There is no (actual) pregnancy in the story.

Cradle Series by Will Wight

The Cradle Series by Will Wight is pretty good. It’s currently unfinished at 5 books published out of a total of 12 planned books.

cradle

Click here to visit the book website. The “preview” link allows you to read the first part of the books.

The story is about a boy in a Xianxia-like world. It’s not technically called Xianxia, lol, since the author put his own spin on it but it’s almost 100% Xianxia if you ask me.

I enjoyed the first three books immensely but I feel like the excitement waned after that. However, it’s worth reading.

I’ve also read Will Wight’s Traveler’s Gate Trilogy which I enjoyed a lot except for …. spoiler here … scroll down for the spoiler
